SOUTH  Korea fires at suspected drone at border with North amid missile crisis South Korea’s military on Tuesday fired warning shots at a suspected drone from North Korea amid tension over Pyongyang’s latest missile test which drew international condemnation and a warning from China. The identity of the object remained unclear, the military said, but Yonhap news agency said it was possibly a drone, more than 90 shots were fired in return and it disappeared from radar screens. The incursion came with tension already high on the Korean peninsula after the North’s test-launch of a ballistic missile test on Sunday which Pyongyang said proved advances in its pursuit of building a nuclear-tipped weapon that can hit U.S. targets. The U.S. has been trying to persuade China, North Korea’s lone major ally, to do more to rein in North Korea, which has conducted dozens of missile launches and tested two nuclear bombs since the start of 2016, in defiance of UN Security Council sanc...

A GLIMPSE OF DEATH: Kerosene explosion makes life horrible for 11-year-old girl

A GLIMPSE OF DEATH: Kerosene explosion makes life horrible for 11-year-old girl On her bed at the Michael Okpara Ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, capital of Abia State, Esther Emeka Ude, an 11-year-old Primary 5 pupil of Divine Learning Academy, Aba, cuts a pathetic picture. She has been lying on her left side since December 30 last year when she was admitted to the hospital. She had suffered third degree burns following a lantern explosion in the room where she and her siblings were sleeping. Her siblings had been rescued from the inferno after the explosion. But Esther, who was asleep on the rug, was trapped inside the room. As the fire raged, her parents and other relations did not know that Esther was still inside the burning room until they heard some struggling inside. The door to the room refused to open, and the people outside had to break the door. That was when they beheld Esther, literally on fire and desperately running around the room. By the ti...

3 reasons millennial couples are ditching diamonds

3 reasons millennial couples are ditching diamonds Millennials aren't as interested in  buying diamonds as their Baby Boomer counterparts — and an increasingly agitated diamond industry is trying to win them over. Slowing sales in recent years have led the diamond industry to look outside of the once-bulletproof engagement ring market to attract millennial customers. A  new campaign from the Diamond Producers Association, its first in five years, encourages millennials to commemorate any "real" relationship, not just one that leads to the altar, with a diamond. But a closer look shows that it's not that millennials have altogether  stopped buying diamonds. They spent $26 billion on the stones in 2015 alone, more than any other single generation, according to the  De Beers Annual Diamond Insight Report. Millennials are approaching both money and marriage differently, though, and it's affecting their spending habits. Fewer millennials are getting married First o...

Trump Isn't the President Israel Was Hoping For

Trump Isn't the President Israel Was Hoping For In Tel Aviv on Monday, Donald Trump will not receive a gleaming gold medal or join a boisterous sword dance. But his 28-hour stop in the Holy Land should have been the highlight of his first foreign tour as president of the United States. Israel’s ruling right-wing greeted his election with glee, and for good reason: The new president seemed ready to fulfill its deepest wishes. During Trump’s campaign and transition, he vowed to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. (The United States, like most countries, keeps its mission in Tel Aviv to avoid wading into the dispute over the contested holy city.) He nominated a U.S. ambassador, bankruptcy lawyer David Friedman, who supports Israeli settlements—not only in his words, but as the president of a foundation that donated millions to Beit El, an ideological settlement outside of Ramallah. Trump said he would be open to a one-state solution, a statement that seemed to casually discard ...

If you bought $100 of bitcoin 7 years ago, you'd have $72.9 million now

If you bought $100 of bitcoin 7 years ago, you'd have $72.9 million now Monday marks the seven-year anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day – the moment a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 bitcoin on two Papa John's pizzas. More important than the episode being widely recognized as the first transaction using the cryptocurrency is what it tells us about the bitcoin rally that saw it break through the $2,100 mark on Monday. Bitcoin (BTC=-USS) was trading as high as $2,185.89 in the early hours of Monday morning, hitting a fresh record high, after first powering through the $2,000 barrier over the weekend, according to CoinDesk data. On May 22, 2010, Hanyecz asked a fellow enthusiast on a bitcoin forum to accept 10,000 bitcoin for two Papa John's Pizzas. At the time, Hanyecz believed that the coins he had "mined" on his computer were worth around 0.003 cents each. Bitcoin mining involves solving a complex mathematical solution with the miner being rewarded i...

Moment of truth for Cosby as jury selection for sex assault trial begins

Moment of truth for Cosby as jury selection for sex assault trial begins A Pennsylvania judge on Monday will begin questioning potential jurors for the rape trial of Bill Cosby, the comedian best known as America's favorite TV dad before dozens of women came forward to accuse him of sex abuse. Cosby built a long career with a family-friendly style of comedy that peaked when he played father Heathcliff Huxtable in the 1980's hit "The Cosby Show." His reputation began to crumble as he was hit by a series of lawsuits and allegations charging him with drugging and sexually assaulting women in incidents dating back a half-century. All but one of the cases is too old to be the subject of criminal prosecution, leaving Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill with the task of picking the 12 jurors who will determine whether Cosby, now 79, is guilty of sexually assaulting a former Temple University basketball coach at his home in the Philadelphia suburbs in 2004. Cosby h...
